How-to docs
Hands-on, step-by-step guides to Cympha, the dental lab case management software, for clinicians, labs, designers and patients. Each step names the real buttons, gives a concrete example and says what to do when something does not behave as expected.
Integration journeys
End-to-end walkthroughs that span multiple apps. Start here if you want to see the whole platform wired together.
Decision guide: clinician, lab, designer, patient — which Cympha account, subscription, and install do you actually need? What's free, what's paid, and what you can skip.
Add AI aligner design to your existing Cympha lab: OrthoPlus subscription on gm.cympha.com, Agent Manager pairing, and the first AlignerBot case end-to-end.
Follow one ortho case across every Cympha surface: virtual patient in Studio, submit to lab, designer refines in OrthoPlus, doctor approves, share to patient.
New designer onboarding: sign up, get approved by the lab manager, activate OrthoPlus, install Cympha Agent Manager, pick up the first assigned case automatically.
The full review-and-finalize loop: AlignerBot Phase-1 plan returns, doctor approves or requests changes with an .xml/.gpk, Phase-2 appliance design runs, final delivery.
The full CAAI pipeline: sign in, buy credits, submit, review Phase-1 for free, self-approve to spend a credit and unlock Phase-2 appliance design, share with the patient.
After the first paid Phase-2 round, how to refine: upload an .xml from Studio or a .gpk from OrthoPlus Planner, re-run for free. Per-case credit accounting and when a fresh case beats another refinement.
Wear all three hats — clinician, lab manager, AlignerBot operator — on one workstation. How the dispatch loop iterates without a human designer, and when it pays to keep doing it solo.
For clinicians
Submit cases, review designs, share plans with patients, and start AI Aligner cases.
A colleague or lab shared a dental case with you on Cympha. Exactly what the email means, how to claim it, and what you can and can't do once you're in.
Send a clear-aligner case into AlignerBot — from the case form to the lab's queue. What to upload, what each field does, and what happens after Submit.
Send a case to a human-designer lab. The form's three payment shapes, free-text prescription notes (no XML required), and the difference from AlignerBot.
Find a case fast, follow it through statuses, comment, escalate, or stop sharing. How filters work, what the Shared badge means, and the notification triggers.
Your case has reached AWAITING_APPROVAL. How to review the lab's deliverable, the PLAN vs APPLIANCE approval steps for AlignerBot, and the rules for requesting changes.
Send the patient a one-tap link to view their own treatment plan in Cympha Studio. The same action that enrolls a patient in Ortho Monitoring.
Share an aligner case with a patient as a monitoring subject, set the reminder cadence, and verify their first round of photos came back framed correctly.
The same AlignerBot pipeline at app.cympha.com/caai, billed per credit. Buy credits, submit, review Phase-1 free, self-approve for Phase-2.
Send messages from the case chat, tag who should see it, choose between internal and customer-visible notes, and understand who gets emailed when.
Every event that happened on a case in one place — status changes, assignments, uploads, approvals, escalations, shares. How to interpret each entry, and where customer-visible filters narrow it.
The condensed chairside aligner workflow. Scan, repair, segment, stage, save .gpk — and let Cympha Agent Manager's File Monitor turn it into a Cympha case automatically.
First-run tour of studio.cympha.com — the six workspaces, the hamburger menu, opening scans and plans, distance measurements, the gallery panel, and the case bar.
Assemble the virtual patient in Studio — scans, CBCT, photos, measurements — and submit the whole scene to a lab as a Cympha case in one action via the hamburger menu.
From picking a template to sharing a plan with the patient — the consultation module's buttons in order, including AI extraction, plan generation, the data-completeness checklist, and what happens if you edit a plan after approval.
The DA's chairside sequence — open the case, upload photos by phone, import scans, type the initial chart — so the doctor walks in with everything already loaded.
When a consultation recommends lab work, branching pre-populates the new lab case with the chief complaint, the full plan, and the consultation's files. Step-by-step.
For patients
Open the treatment plan your dentist shared with you, and (if enabled) take your monthly progress photos.
Your dentist or orthodontist emailed you a link to a 3D treatment plan. Exactly what to click, what to expect on each screen, and what to do if something looks wrong.
Patient-side photo capture: five orientations (Front, Left, Right, Upper, Lower) framed against your treatment plan, on your phone, in about a minute.
What you see when your doctor shares a treatment plan, how to approve or ask questions, the chat with your doctor, and what happens if the doctor updates the plan after you've responded.
For labs
Onboard your lab, set up the intake form, triage incoming cases, and assign work to designers or AlignerBot.
Lab sign-up wizard — public lab name, intake form, AlignerBot service, pricing, and team invites — so clinics can find you and submit cases the same afternoon.
Replace the native AlignerBot template with your own intake form. Upload the source document, let Cympha extract the fields, edit, save — clinics see your form on submit.
Build your lab's team on Cympha: how designers self-onboard against your manager email, the role taxonomy (Designer, Case Intaker, Manufacturing Engineer, Lab Admin, etc.), approve / turn off / delete.
How to triage your lab queue, assign a SUBMITTED case to a designer (or to the AlignerBot agent), and move it into DESIGNING.
Cloud files
Manage files in your Cympha cloud, share them with colleagues, start cases from a folder, and open files in Studio.
Browse your cloud files, create folders, rename and move, understand the difference between My Cases (30-day rolling), the Browser, and My Shares.
Share a single file (not a case) with another Cympha user. The share-file dialog, recipient roles, the per-share message thread with image attachments, how to revoke.
Turn an existing cloud folder of scans, CBCT, or photos into a Cympha case in one click. The case form is pre-seeded; files are imported (and the source folder is then deleted).
Open a 3D-viewable cloud file (STL, PLY, OBJ, GVW, CYP) directly in Cympha Studio for review or measurement without going through a case first.
For designers
Pick up assigned cases, design in GuideMia desktop apps, and request approval back through Cympha.
Your lab manager approved your team membership and assigned you a case. How to find it, open it in OrthoPlus, save your work, and request approval.
Pick up the doctor's Studio bundle (.cyp) — the same camera angle, mesh colours, and photo gallery they saw — then switch to OrthoPlus for the staging work.
After OrthoPlus saves your finished plan, Cympha Agent Manager uploads it back. Then click Request Approval on the case and the doctor takes it from there.
The doctor sent the case back. Read the chat (or the .xml / .gpk refinement for AlignerBot), apply the changes in OrthoPlus, save, and re-submit through Request Approval.
Walk a real clear-aligner case in OrthoPlus from raw intraoral scans to a saved .gpk: scan repair, AI tooth segmentation, tooth setup, staging, attachments, IPR.
Cympha Studio operations
Hands-on chapters for Studio: virtual patient, CBCT, articulation, facial scan, implant interoperability, ortho planning and staging.
Index of the full Cympha Studio operational reference. Deep links to every chapter of the in-Studio user guide and use-case training in all 6 languages.
Assemble CBCT + intra-oral scans + facial scan + photos into a single coherent 3D scene. Landmark registration, multi-modality alignment, and saving the bundle as .cyp.
Navigate the CT volume: MPR modes (axial / coronal / sagittal / panoramic), arch curve, HU thresholding, slice interaction, and panoramic MPR along the arch.
Pair upper + lower jaws in Studio, set the occlusal plane, play the lateral excursion, review occlusal contacts and clearances.
Load a patient facial scan, align to dental + CBCT, control camera positions for consistent screenshots, and capture the gallery + .cyp pictures workflow.
Native in-browser implant planning against a CBCT: open the catalog, place implants on universal tooth numbers, fine-tune with the gizmo, save as .imp (local or cloud by series UID).
Open a .pie project from GuideMia Implant Software in Studio, review implants, add or update from the catalog, see the design log, save back. Also covers .imp.
Case bar (step slider, play, Movement chart, IPR, Case XML), the staging chart panel (single click, hint, double-click, drag), IPR overlay editing, tooth movement panel, XML round-trip with OrthoPlus.
Decision guide for the mesh repair menu: Fix model vs Fill holes vs Smooth vs the three brushes vs Remove region. Symptom → tool, plus a typical end-to-end repair sequence.
The Fix model menu item: a single conservative pass over the whole mesh — close holes up to 5 mm, keep the largest region, normalise. When to use it, what can go wrong, what to back up first.
Fill holes (boundary closing without the heavier non-manifold passes of Fix model) and Smooth (whole-surface smoothing only). When each is right, how to pair them, what they cost the geometry.
The three brush modes — Smart cleanup, Local cleanup (no hole fill), Local smoothing — for precise local repairs without rebuilding the whole mesh. Shared controls, when to use each, attachment removal workflow.
Delete a marked rectangle of the mesh and have a clean surface fill its place. Built for removing aligner attachments, defects, or stray geometry without rebuilding the whole scan.
The Make dental model action: turn an open intraoral scan into a closed solid base by extruding its boundary along a draggable direction arrow to a cut plane. Useful for printable arches and study models.
Studio's Face from Picture pipeline — Face (MediaPipe landmarks) or Head (Depth Anything monocular depth). Two paths: standalone (no CBCT, nose-depth slider) or registered against your CBCT.
Use the Digital Smile Design workspace in Cympha Studio to turn a single 2D photo into an AI-guided before/after — Photo → Detect → Frame → Refine → Generate. Browser-native; the patient photo never leaves the device.
Cympha Agent Manager
Install the tray app, pair it to your account, and use it to bridge your workstation with Cympha cases.
Install the Agent Manager on a Windows workstation, pair it to your Cympha account, and read the tray status so you know whether it is working. About ten minutes.
The Upload via Agent button on the case detail page: pick a file from your workstation through the desktop agent and (for meshes) optionally fix the geometry before it lands on the case.
