Reviewing and Approving Your Treatment Plan (Patient Guide)
This guide shows how to open the plan your doctor shared, approve it or ask questions in chat, and what happens to your dental case if the plan changes after you respond.
When your doctor shares a treatment plan with you on Cympha, you'll get an email with a link. This page walks through what you'll see, how to respond, and how to ask questions.
Opening your plan
Click the link in the email. If you don't already have a Cympha account, you'll be invited to create one — email and password only, no extra steps.
You'll land on a page titled Your treatment plan, with:
- The patient name (you)
- When the doctor shared it
- Section-by-section plan content
- Any pictures your doctor attached
- Buttons at the bottom to respond
Reading the plan
The plan is written for you, not for a medical record. Exactly how it's organised depends on your consultation, but you'll typically see:
- Your Concern — what brought you in, in your own words
- What We Found — the doctor's findings from the exam
- Your Treatment Options — the choices, including doing nothing
- Recommended Treatment — the option the doctor suggests, with the reasoning
- Risks — what could go wrong or limit the result
- Next Steps — what to do to move forward
- Approval / Questions — your turn
Cost is not on the plan. Your doctor's office will discuss cost and payment options with you separately — by phone, email, or at your next visit.
Pictures attached to the plan
If your doctor attached photos (intraoral pictures, radiographs, before/after references), they appear in a "Pictures your doctor shared" section. Tap any picture to view full-size.
Two ways to respond
Approving the plan
If you've read and understood the plan and want to proceed, tap the approve button at the bottom of the plan. Your doctor is notified, and your approval is recorded on the case.
That's it. You don't have to print anything or sign anything.
Asking questions
If something in the plan needs clarification before you decide, use the questions option: type your question in the text area and send it to your doctor.
Your question lands on your doctor's case page and is visible in the doctor's chat with you. They'll respond when they've read it.
Chat with your doctor
Below the buttons is a Chat with your doctor section — an open-ended conversation thread. Use this for:
- Follow-up questions after you've read the plan
- Clarifications about scheduling, recovery, lifestyle impact
- Anything that doesn't fit the formal "approve / questions" buttons above
This chat is only between you and your doctor. Your dental lab, if any, doesn't see it; only the doctor.
If your doctor edits the plan
Sometimes after you've approved (or asked questions), the doctor updates the plan based on new information. When that happens, the doctor re-shares the new version and you'll get another email link. Read the latest version before deciding — if anything about the update is unclear, ask in the chat.
Caregivers and family members
If you're reading on behalf of a child, a parent, or a patient who can't review themselves, the doctor should have shared the plan with your email (the caregiver). Approve / ask questions on behalf of the patient — your doctor knows you're the responsible adult on the share.
If you got a plan that doesn't seem to be for someone in your care, contact the practice immediately so the share can be corrected.
Privacy
Your plan is only visible to:
- You (the email holder of the share)
- Your doctor
The lab that may eventually make any restoration doesn't see this plan; they see a separate, lab-formatted case if the doctor sends one. No other practice or patient sees your plan.
Saving / printing
Each section is plain text — your phone or browser's "Save as PDF" or "Print" function works. The plan stays available on Cympha as long as your share is active.
