Cympha Studio

Viewer for DICOM and mesh files. Tools for everything around dental CAD.

Cympha Studio is a browser viewer for DICOM and dental mesh files, and a set of software tools for everything around dental CAD: scan processing and model repair, CBCT, implant simulation, bite simulation, orthodontic simulation, cephalometric tracing, a 3D face from a photo, digital smile design and ortho monitoring. Free, no install.

Browser-native

No install, no CAD seat, no graphics-card licence. Sign in from any modern browser on any device — desktop, tablet, chair-side laptop.

Multi-modal fusion

CBCT volumes, optical scans, facial scans, photographs, lateral X-rays — registered into one anatomical view so you reason about the whole patient, not one data type at a time.

3D review and approval: patient-ready sharing

Send an interactive 3D case to a patient or specialist via a secure link. They rotate the model in their own browser. No software, no plugin, no account on their side.

Automatic session restore

Studio saves your in-progress scene locally as you work. Close the tab, come back later, pick up where you left off — even after a browser crash.

Seven workspaces. One workstation.

Workspaces are menu filters, not mode switches. The same case, the same files, the same dock — only the tool list narrows to what the workflow actually needs.

Switch from the Workspace menubar at the top of Studio. Opening a workflow-specific file (an OrthoPlus .gvw, an implant .pie) switches you automatically so you don't have to think about it.

3D Processing

Optical scans, mesh viewing, registration, articulation. The freeform workspace for general 3D work.

  • Open STL, PLY, OBJ optical scans; load CBCT DICOM volumes.
  • Register meshes, view cross-sections, measure distances and angles.
  • Simulate articulation between upper and lower arches.
  • Save .cyp projects to persist scenes with meshes, photos, and CT links together.

Orthodontics

OrthoPlus cases, tooth-by-tooth staging, IPR, attachments — the aligner and orthodontic simulation surface.

  • Open OrthoPlus (.gvw) cases with full segmentation and staging data preserved.
  • Adjust tooth-by-tooth movements, attachments, and aligner stages.
  • Simulate the bite at any step of the plan.
  • Restore the initial plan with one click when an experiment didn't work.

Implant

CBCT-driven implant simulation with .pie / .imp interoperability for surgical-guide workflows.

  • Load CBCT DICOM volumes and segment bone for simulation.
  • Open existing .pie implant projects; export for downstream surgical-guide design.
  • Overlay optical scans on the CBCT to review the soft tissue and tooth crowns.
  • Document the case with photographs alongside the 3D scene.

Facial Scan

Face capture, landmark verification, and alignment of facial scans against CBCT.

  • Add facial scans captured from phones, structured-light scanners, or stereophotogrammetry.
  • Verify automatic landmark detection and adjust by hand where needed.
  • Align the face to the underlying CBCT so soft tissue and bone share one coordinate system.
  • Persist sessions into .cyp projects for later review.

Cephalometric

Lateral X-ray landmark detection and tracing — quick, focused, no-distractions.

  • Open a lateral cephalogram (X-ray) and let Studio auto-detect landmarks.
  • Adjust landmarks by hand; the analysis updates live.
  • Read out standard ceph measurements (SNA, SNB, ANB, FMA, IMPA…).
  • Document the analysis with a photograph of the patient alongside.

Model repair (Model Fixing)

A complete mesh-repair toolset — from one-click whole-model cleanup to fine brush-based touchups — built directly into the 3D Processing workspace.

  • Fix Model — full pipeline: non-manifold cleanup, internal-cell removal, hole fill, final smoothing.
  • Smart Cleanup / Delete Region — brush over a defect; Studio decides whether to cut + refill or smooth in place.
  • Local Smoothing & Area Touchup — preserve topology while flattening a wrinkle or blending a boundary.
  • Attachment Removal & Make Dental Model — cut a bracket out and patch the surface, or close an open scan into a printable solid.

Digital Smile Design

Turn one ordinary smile photo into an AI-guided before/after the patient sees on their own image — the single most effective case-acceptance conversation in esthetic dentistry.

  • AI tooth segmentation + facial-landmark detection on a single 2D photo — no scans, no CAD, no install.
  • Auto picture leveling, midline + smile-arc analysis, and a metric report card (central W/H, incisal cant, lateral-to-central ratio).
  • Editable arch frame with golden-proportion proposals, smooth/symmetric curves, and per-tooth move / rotate / reshape.
  • Pre-shipped ideal-smile texture templates plus user-uploaded templates — and a photo-realistic before/after morph rendered on the patient's own image.
  • Runs entirely in the browser. The patient photo never leaves the device; only AI model weights are fetched from the network.

What you can do in Studio.

Each capability is available in the workspaces where it makes sense — the workspace switcher just keeps the menu focused.

Scan & mesh tools

  • •Import STL, PLY, OBJ from any intraoral or desktop scanner.
  • •View, register, measure, and slice in cross-section.
  • •Detect mesh defects (holes, non-manifold edges) and offer one-click repair before downstream work.

CBCT & volume rendering

  • •Load CBCT DICOM volumes from any major scanner manufacturer.
  • •Volume-render bone, segment regions of interest, and inspect cross-sections.
  • •Overlay optical scans for combined soft-tissue + bone simulation.

Orthodontic simulation

  • •Open OrthoPlus cases with full segmentation and staging.
  • •Adjust tooth movements, set IPR, place attachments, retime stages.
  • •Restore the initial plan when an iteration didn't pan out.

Implant simulation

  • •Simulate implant placement on CBCT with drill paths and abutments.
  • •Round-trip with .pie / .imp implant projects for downstream guide design.
  • •Combine optical scans of the dentition with the underlying CBCT.

Articulation & dynamic occlusion

  • •Simulate jaw movement between upper and lower arches.
  • •Identify contact points and interferences during excursions.
  • •Useful for prosthetic and orthodontic case review before fabrication.

Photos, sharing & docs

  • •Add patient photographs to any case so the 3D scene has the photos beside it.
  • •Share an interactive 3D model with the patient or a referring colleague via a secure link.
  • •Built-in user guide and training material accessible from the menu.
Case handoff

A virtual patient model — and the design intent that comes with it.

A case is more than what's in the patient's mouth. It's what's in your head about that patient — the planned extraction, the margin you'd cut, the radiolucency you spotted on slice 47. We let you put both into one record the lab can open.

Cympha Studio assembles a true virtual patient from scans, CBCT, intraoral photos and the bite — and lets you record your design intent right onto it: a circle around the tooth you want extracted, a distance pick that captures the correction you're after, a screenshot from the exact angle you want the lab to evaluate. When you hand off, the entire virtual patient and the intent on it ride together. The designer opens the case and inherits both the patient and your understanding of them — not a folder of files to re-interpret.

A patient, not a folder

  • •Scans, CBCT, photos, the bite, and the viewing angle you reviewed from — assembled into one virtual patient model.
  • •The lab opens the patient, not a folder of STLs and a paragraph of guesswork.

Design intent, captured

  • •Circle the prep margin. Pick the planned extraction. Measure the rotation correction. What you'd do at the chair, captured as data.
  • •What the lab designs is what you actually meant — because your intent travelled with the patient, not as words on a form.

Dimensional reasoning, preserved

  • •Every distance you measure auto-captures the frame you saw it from — segment, label, view angle — into the case gallery.
  • •The reasoning behind the number survives the handoff, not just the number itself. Reviewers see exactly what convinced you.

The lab inherits your view

  • •Designers open the case and stand where you stood: same camera, same scan colours, same focus.
  • •They start from your understanding of the patient — not from raw scans. Less context recovery, faster turnaround, fewer revisions.

Open almost anything dental.

Studio reads the formats your scanners, planners, and labs already produce — and saves projects in formats other tools can consume.
