3D face from a photo
A 3D face from one photo, in the browser
Take a photo or use one you have, and Studio builds a textured 3D face from it on your device, ready to align with the patient's CBCT. Facial scans from a scanner register to the CBCT the same way. Cympha Studio is a browser viewer for DICOM and dental mesh files, and a set of software tools for everything around dental CAD. Free, no install.

From one photo to a 3D face
Photo or camera
Use a PNG or JPEG, a picture from the case gallery, or the 3D Camera, which captures from your webcam.
Face
Detects 468 facial landmarks, builds the face surface from them and textures it with the photo. A slider sets the nose depth.
Head
Estimates depth across the whole head and separates the person from the background, for a fuller model.
Checks and adjustments
Verify the detected landmarks, adjust brightness, contrast and resolution, and set the face box before building.
Align to the CBCT
With a CBCT loaded, Studio finds the skin surface at a Hounsfield threshold, matches the landmarks and fits the face to it, so the photo's soft tissue sits on the patient's bone.
Facial scans from a scanner
Add a facial scan as STL, PLY or OBJ with its texture. Studio finds the face on the scan and on the CBCT and registers them; manual registration is there if detection fails.
Texture from a photo
Project a photograph onto any mesh and download the textured model as PLY.
Projects
Save the face, the CBCT and the scans together as a .cyp project and reopen them later.
On your device
Landmark detection and depth estimation run in your browser. The photo is not uploaded; the AI models are downloaded once and cached.
Questions about the 3D face
- Do I need a facial scanner?
- No. One photo is enough for a textured face. A facial scan from a scanner can be used instead and registers to the CBCT the same way.
- Is the photo uploaded?
- No. The face is built in your browser. It goes to Cympha only when you save the project to a case.
- Can I align the face with the CBCT?
- Yes. With a CBCT loaded, Studio fits the face to the skin surface of the volume.
- Does Cympha Studio cost anything?
- No. Studio is free. Saving to a Cympha case, and a few of the editing tools, ask you to sign in with a Cympha account.
