Cephalometric tracing
Cephalometric tracing in the browser
Open a lateral cephalogram and Studio detects the landmarks and draws the tracing on your device. From a Cympha case, the analysis adds the angles and distances. Cympha Studio is a browser viewer for DICOM and dental mesh files, and a set of software tools for everything around dental CAD. Free, no install.

Automatic tracing
- 1Open the lateral cephalogram as PNG, JPEG or WebP.
- 2Studio detects 38 landmarks with an AI model that runs in your browser, on the GPU where there is one.
- 3The tracing, construction lines, landmarks and labels are drawn on the image at three times its resolution.
- 4Save the traced image to the case gallery or download it.
Analysis from the case
When the cephalogram is on a Cympha case, the analysis runs from the case and saves the annotated image and the measurements back to it.
Angles
Interincisal, SN-AB, PP-FH, MP-FH, PP-GoGn, Y-axis, facial angle and facial depth, each shown with its normal value.
Distances
Mandibular and maxillary length, upper and lower facial height, intermolar width, facial depth, posterior facial height, anterior cranial base length and maxillary base length.
On the record
The annotated image and the data file are saved to the case, where the doctor, the lab and the designer can open them.
On your device
The X-ray stays on your device. The AI model is downloaded once, cached in the browser and runs there.
Questions about cephalometric tracing
- Is the X-ray uploaded?
- No. Detection and tracing run in your browser. The image reaches Cympha only when you save it to a case.
- Which landmarks are detected?
- 38 landmarks of a standard lateral cephalometric analysis, with the tracing drawn from them.
- Where do the measurements come from?
- From the analysis run on a Cympha case. It saves the angles with their normal values and the distances back to the case.
- Does Cympha Studio cost anything?
- No. Studio is free. Saving to a Cympha case, and a few of the editing tools, ask you to sign in with a Cympha account.
