Virtual patient model
A virtual patient model from every modality
Bring the CBCT, the intraoral or desktop scans, the facial scan or a face from a photo, and the photographs into one scene, registered to each other, in Cympha Studio. Cympha Studio is a browser viewer for DICOM and dental mesh files, and a set of software tools for everything around dental CAD. Free, no install.

Every modality in one scene
Each file opens in the same scene, from your disk, a link or a Cympha case, and the scene is kept in your browser as you work.
CBCT
A DICOM folder, rendered as a volume and as axial, sagittal, coronal and panoramic slices.
Intraoral and desktop scans
STL, PLY and OBJ from any scanner, with an optional photo texture.
Facial scan
A face scan as STL, PLY or OBJ with its texture, from a phone, a structured-light scanner or stereophotogrammetry.
Face from a photo
No facial scanner? One photo or the webcam gives a textured 3D face.
Photographs
Patient photos in the case gallery, or projected onto a mesh as texture.
Plans and projects
OrthoPlus plans and GuideMia Implant projects open on the same scene as the scans and the CBCT.
Registration
Registration puts every file in the patient's coordinate system, so a scan can be checked against the bone and a face against the teeth.
Scan to CBCT
Pick three or more matching points on the scan and in the volume; Studio fits them and then refines the fit onto the bone surface at the threshold you set.
Scan to scan
Register a mesh to another mesh the same way, for a pre-op scan against a design or two scans of the same arch.
Facial scan to CBCT
Studio finds the face on the scan and on the CBCT and registers them in two automatic steps, with manual registration if detection fails.
Face from a photo to CBCT
The reconstructed face is fitted to the skin surface of the volume.
Registered models
Import a further mesh in the same pose as a registered one, so a design lands where its scan is.
Check it
Show any mesh's outline in the CBCT slices and colour one mesh by its distance to another.
What the model is for
Simulation on the patient
Place implants, run the bite, play an aligner plan or align a face, on the registered scene rather than on one file at a time.
Photographs with the 3D
Capture any view with a comment into the case gallery, mark it with circles, and keep it with the scene.
Saved as a project
A .cyp project keeps the meshes, the CBCT and the photos together, in a folder you can reopen.
Sent to a case
Create a Cympha case from the scene: the DICOM, the meshes, the images and the project go to the case, and the lab or the designer opens the same scene.
Questions about the virtual patient model
- Which files can be registered?
- STL, PLY and OBJ meshes, to each other or to a CBCT DICOM volume, and facial scans or a face built from a photo, to the CBCT.
- Is registration automatic?
- Facial scans and faces from a photo register to the CBCT automatically. Scans register by the matching points you pick, refined onto the surface by Studio.
- Is the patient's data uploaded?
- No. Files are read and registered in your browser. They go to Cympha only when you create a case or save to one.
- Does Cympha Studio cost anything?
- No. Studio is free. Saving to a Cympha case, and a few of the editing tools, ask you to sign in with a Cympha account.
