I got an invite from my dentist — how do I open my plan?
When your dentist emails you a link, this guide shows how to set a password, view the plan for your dental case in 3D in your browser and what to do if something looks wrong.
Audience: Patients who got an email from their dentist or orthodontist saying a treatment plan was shared with them.
You'll come away knowing: how to open the link, set up your account, and see your treatment plan in 3D in your browser.
Time required: About three minutes. You only do this once — after that, opening your plan again is one click.
Before you start
You need three things:
- The email from your doctor. If this is your first time, it's an invitation email from Cympha asking you to create an account. If you already had a Cympha account before your doctor shared the plan, you'll get a notification email from Cympha instead, telling you a treatment plan was shared with you.
- The same email address your doctor used to share the plan. If they sent it to your work email, use your work email. If you sign up with a different address by mistake, the page will be empty.
- A computer, tablet, or phone with a recent browser (Chrome, Safari, Edge, or Firefox). The 3D viewer works on phones, but a larger screen is much easier to look at.
You do not need to download anything. The treatment plan opens in your browser.
Step 1 — Open the email and click the link
Find the email in your inbox. If it isn't there, check your spam or promotions folder — first-time emails from a new sender sometimes land there.
Click the invitation link inside the email. If you're a brand-new Cympha user, it takes you to app.cympha.com/patient/sign-up to set up your account. If you already have a Cympha account at the same address, the email's Sign in to view button takes you to app.cympha.com/patient/sign-in instead. The link is personalised to you, so don't forward it to anyone else.
Step 2 — Set a password
The page that opens is titled Welcome to Cympha, with a short subtitle "Set a password to view the treatment plan your doctor shared with you." Your email address is already filled in (greyed out — you can't change it on this page). Below it is a field called Set a password.
- Type a password you'll remember.
- If you want to double-check what you typed, click the small eye icon on the right of the box.
- Click Continue.
That's the whole sign-up. You don't have to verify your email separately — the invitation link you clicked already did that.
If you already had a Cympha account, you'll go to the sign-in page instead and just enter your existing password — no new account is created.
Why no name or address fields? Your doctor's clinic already has your details. This account is only for opening the plan they shared, so we keep the form as short as possible.
Step 3 — You land on My cases
After the password is set, you'll arrive at a page titled My cases, with the subtitle "The treatment plans your doctor has shared with you." You should see one card on the page — that's the plan your doctor shared with you. The card shows your patient name (or your case number), the file name, who shared it ("Shared by Dr. ..."), and the date your doctor shared it.
If the page looks empty and says "Your doctor hasn't shared any cases with you yet. When they do, they'll appear here.", see the troubleshooting section below — almost always this means you signed up with a different email than the one your doctor used.
Step 4 — Click Open to see your plan in 3D
On the card, click the Open button (it has a small "open in new tab" icon). The button briefly shows "Opening…" while we fetch a fresh, short-lived link, then a new browser tab opens with the Cympha Studio viewer. After a second or two you'll see a 3D model of your teeth.
You can:
- Drag with your mouse (or one finger on a touchscreen) to rotate the model.
- Use two fingers or your scroll wheel to zoom in.
- Press the play button at the bottom of the screen to watch your treatment progress through every step from start to finish.
That's it. You can come back any time by signing in at app.cympha.com with the same email and password.
What happens next
- Bookmark the page. Save
app.cympha.comto your phone or browser so you don't have to dig for the email next time. - Your doctor may share more. If your treatment changes, your doctor can re-share an updated plan to the same account. The existing card on My cases updates so it always opens the latest version — a new card appears only if the doctor shares a different case with you.
- Ortho monitoring. If your doctor turns on progress monitoring, you'll get separate emails from Cympha asking you to take mouth photos with your phone. That's a different flow with its own short how-to.
Troubleshooting
The page says "Your doctor hasn't shared any cases with you yet." This almost always means you signed up with a different email than the one your doctor typed. Use the Profile button at the top right to sign out, then ask your doctor which email they used and sign up again with that exact address.
The link in the email says it expired. Invitation links don't last forever. Reply to the email and ask your doctor to send a fresh one — it only takes them a second.
Clicking Open just spins forever. Refresh the page and try Open again. The link to your 3D plan is short-lived, so we fetch a fresh one every time you click. If it still doesn't open, try a different browser (Chrome and Safari are the most reliable for 3D), and let your doctor know if it keeps failing.
I forgot my password. On the sign-in page at app.cympha.com, click Forgot password? and follow the email instructions. Your treatment plan stays linked to the account either way.
I want my partner / parent to see the plan too. Don't share your password. Instead, ask your doctor to share the plan with their email as well. That keeps each person's account private.
