Digital smile design

Digital smile design in the browser

One photo of the patient's smile becomes a before-and-after the patient sees on their own face, with the measurements behind it and a report for the record. Cympha Studio is a browser viewer for DICOM and dental mesh files, and a set of software tools for everything around dental CAD. Free, no install.

Digital smile design in Cympha Studio: the new smile shown on the patient's own photo

Five steps

  1. 1Photo: crop, rotate, adjust brightness and contrast, and level the face automatically.
  2. 2Detect: the teeth are found and numbered (FDI or Universal) and the smile is analysed. Add, remove or renumber teeth where needed.
  3. 3Frame: drag the incisal curve, the gum line, the midline and the contacts, or let Studio propose them, with a golden-proportion strength slider.
  4. 4Refine: reshape or move single teeth and close gaps.
  5. 5Generate: pick a crown texture or keep the patient's own, choose the shade, set whitening, and compare before and after with a slider.

What the patient and the record get

Before and after

The new smile is morphed onto the patient's own photo, and can be projected onto a bite photo as well.

Measurements

Central incisor width-to-height, incisal cant, midline offset and lateral-to-central ratio, each checked against its target.

Shades

Bleach shades BL1 to BL4 and the A, B, C and D range, with a whitening control.

Report

A PDF with patient and doctor details, before and after images, the per-tooth changes in millimetres, arch width, smile line and the shade. Download it or save it to the Cympha case.

Images

Download the result at full resolution or save it to the case.

On your device

Tooth detection and the smile morph run in your browser. The photo is not uploaded; it reaches Cympha only when you save the result to a case.

Questions about digital smile design

What do I need to start?
One frontal photo of the patient smiling, as PNG, JPEG or WebP. No scan and no CAD.
Is the photo uploaded?
No. Detection and design run in your browser. The result goes to Cympha only when you save it to a case.
Can the patient see it on their own face?
Yes. The design is morphed onto the patient's photo with a before-and-after slider.
Does it produce a 3D design?
No. Digital smile design is a 2D design and report. The 3D work happens on the case's scans in Studio and in the design software.
Does Cympha Studio cost anything?
No. Studio is free. Saving to a Cympha case, and a few of the editing tools, ask you to sign in with a Cympha account.
