Scanner file intake
Scanner file intake that works with any scanner
The Cympha Agent watches the folders your intraoral scanner, desktop scanner and CBCT save into. A new scan shows up within seconds, and one click turns it into a case with the files already on it.
Any scanner, because it watches the folder
Scanner integrations usually mean one connector per brand, each with its own portal and its own login. Cympha reads the files the scanner already writes. If the scanner's software saves to a folder on the workstation, or you download its cases from the maker's portal into a folder, Cympha picks them up.
Intraoral scanners
STL, PLY and OBJ exports, and the zipped case packages scanner software writes.
Desktop lab scanners
Model and impression scans saved by the scanner's own software.
CBCT
DICOM folders and CD exports, which the Agent can also segment into STL on your workstation.
Scanner portal downloads
Cases you download from a scanner maker's portal land in your downloads folder. Watch that folder and they arrive the same way.
Examples of what labs and practices connect this way: 3Shape TRIOS, iTero, Medit, Dexis, Carestream, Shining 3D and Planmeca exports, and lab scanners from the same makers.
From scan to case in one click
- 1Install the free Cympha Agent on the Windows workstation next to the scanner and pair it to your Cympha account.
- 2Choose the folders to watch: one per scanner, as many as you have. Subfolders are watched too.
- 3When the scanner saves new files, a window appears within seconds listing them, with Create a Case and Ignore.
- 4Create a Case opens Cympha with the files attached. Pick a lab case or a clinical case and fill in the order form.
- 5The files upload straight from the workstation to storage, and the case is ready for the lab.
Scanner file intake features
Multi-scanner support
Watch the export folder of every scanner and CBCT in the practice or lab from one Agent.
Only new files
Files already in a folder when watching starts are never offered, so an old archive does not flood the screen.
3D preview before upload
Open any new scan in the 3D viewer straight from your disk to check it before it becomes a case.
Mesh repair on upload
STL and PLY scans can be repaired as they are uploaded, so the lab receives a closed, clean model.
Direct upload
Files go straight from your computer to storage. They never pass through Cympha's servers.
Phone capture
Photographs and other files can be added to a case from a phone by scanning a QR code on the case page.
Desktop sync for the lab side
The same Agent keeps the lab's workstations in step with the case. Assigned cases arrive on disk as folders with their files and a printable lab slip that refreshes when the case changes. A finished design saved into the case folder is queued for upload to the case, where the doctor reviews and approves it.
Questions about scanner file intake
- Which scanners does Cympha work with?
- Any intraoral scanner, lab scanner or CBCT whose software saves files to a folder on a Windows computer, including cases downloaded from a scanner maker's portal. There is no per-brand connector to set up.
- Does the Cympha Agent cost anything?
- No. The Agent is free with every Cympha account and is installed from the Downloads page in Cympha LMS.
- Can we take scans without the Agent?
- Yes. Files can be added to a case from the browser, or from a phone by scanning the QR code on the case page. The Agent removes the downloading, unzipping and uploading by hand.
- Do files go through Cympha's servers?
- No. The Agent uploads straight from your workstation to storage, and only after you approve the workstation from your signed-in account.
- What happens to files that were already in the folder?
- They stay where they are. Only files that appear after watching starts are offered as new scans.
