Dental AI Software
DCLMDental AI softwareAI that works inside the case rather than beside it: it opens the same record your people do, does a pass of the work, and hands back something a human approves or sends back.
What dental AI means when it is part of the case
Most dental AI is a destination. You export a file, upload it somewhere, wait, download a result, and put it back where it belongs. The intelligence is real and the round trip undoes much of what it saves.
The difference here is position, not cleverness. When AI is a worker inside the case lifecycle, it reads the case that already exists — the scan, the prescription, the doctor's intent — does its pass, and writes the result back onto the same record with its reasoning attached. Nothing is exported and nothing is re-uploaded.
That also changes who is accountable. An AI pass produces a proposal on the case, and a person approves it, adjusts it, or sends it back. The judgment stays with your people and the record shows who decided what.
Where AI does the work
Four places, each of them a step that used to be done by hand on every single case.
| Step | What AI does | What a person still does |
|---|---|---|
| Aligner design | Drafts a full treatment plan and staging from the scan and the prescription | Reviews in 3D, adjusts, approves or returns it for another round |
| CBCT segmentation | Separates anatomy from the volume without manual thresholding | Checks the result against the clinical question being asked |
| Reconstruction | Builds a three-dimensional mesh from two-dimensional photographs | Decides whether it is good enough for what it is for |
| Routine passes | Mesh repair, arch building and the mechanical steps before design | Nothing, unless the result looks wrong |
AI Coworkers
The name is literal. A Coworker is assigned work the way a person is, appears in the case history the way a person does, and can be sent a case back the way a person can.
Work is routed to a Coworker from the same queue that routes it to a designer.
What it did, when, and on what version is written to the case history alongside everything else.
A proposal can be rejected with a reason, and the next round starts from that.
A Coworker does a pass. Approval, and the clinical call behind it, stay with a person.
Where it lives in Cympha
Studio holds the 3D data every one of these reads and writes.
| Part of Cympha | What it handles |
|---|---|
| AlignerBot | Clear-aligner treatment planning and staging, in rounds, inside the case |
| CBCT segmentation | Anatomy separated from the volume, ready to plan against |
| Cympha Studio | The 3D data and the record of every operation performed on it |
| AI Coworkers | The repetitive passes across the rest of the lifecycle |
| Cympha LMS | The record a Coworker is assigned from and writes back to |
Questions people ask
- Does the AI decide anything clinical?
- No. It produces a proposal on the case. A person approves it, adjusts it, or sends it back, and the record shows who decided.
- Can we see what it did?
- Yes. Each pass is written to the case history with what it acted on, so a result can be traced later.
- What if the first result is wrong?
- Send it back with a reason. The next round starts from that rather than from the beginning.
- Do we have to use it?
- No. A case can run end to end with people only; the Coworkers take the passes you choose to give them.
Watch an AI round on a real case
The difference between AI beside the case and AI inside it is easiest to see on a case that goes through two rounds.
