Cympha Mobile Studio — Privacy Policy
Last updated: 2026-09-15.
This policy describes what the Cympha Mobile Studio app (the "app") does with your information. The app is a light companion to Cympha Studio (studio.cympha.com) for viewing 3D scan files and GuideMia case files on a phone. It does not perform any planning, decision-making, or design work itself; those happen in Cympha's web applications, and the app only reviews files on your device and, when you ask it to, sends them to your Cympha account or to a share link.
The short version
- The app has no account, no sign-in, no ads, and no analytics or tracking SDKs.
- Files you open stay on your device unless you tap an action that explicitly sends them somewhere: Create Cympha Case, Submit to AlignerBot, Share, or Continue in Studio.
- The app does not access your contacts, location, camera, microphone, photos, or any files other than the ones you choose to open or share into it.
What the app processes on your device
- Files you open. Scan files (STL, PLY, OBJ), GuideMia case files (.gvw), and Cympha project files (.cyp) that you pick from your device or share into the app from another application. They are read into memory to be displayed and are cleared when you remove them or close the app.
- Project files you save. When you use Share, the app also saves a copy of the shared project (.cyp) to the
Documents/Cymphafolder on your device so you can reopen it later. You control these files and can delete them at any time. - A random device identifier. The app generates a random identifier (a UUID) the first time it needs one and stores it locally. It is not derived from your device, your account, or any personal data; it is sent with hand-off requests only to limit how many uploads a single installation can start in a short period. Clearing the app's data resets it.
- Cached start-page content. The start page shows a short article from Cympha's public content feed and caches the last one shown so the screen loads instantly. Fetching it sends no personal data.
What leaves your device, and when
Nothing is uploaded until you tap one of the following. Each one tells you what it will do before it does it.
- Create Cympha Case / Submit to AlignerBot. The files currently open, an optional note you type, and optional file tags (upper, lower, bite) are uploaded to Cympha's servers under a temporary token, and the app opens app.cympha.com in your browser so you can sign in and attach them to a new case in your Cympha account. Uploads that are never attached to a case expire after one hour and are no longer reachable through the app or the website. Once attached, the files become part of your case and are governed by the terms and privacy policy of the Cympha web application.
- Continue in Studio. The file currently open is uploaded the same way and opened at studio.cympha.com in your browser. The same one-hour expiry applies.
- Share. The files currently open are packaged into a project file and uploaded to Cympha's storage, and the app gives you a link to studio.cympha.com that anyone holding it can open, without signing in, for 90 days. You choose who receives the link; the app hands it to your device's share sheet or copies it to the clipboard. Treat the link as you would the files themselves. If you turn on "ask them to leave their email as a receipt", people opening the link are asked for an email address before the files are shown; that address is stored with the share, and Cympha may use it to follow up and add it to its contact list, from which the recipient can unsubscribe at any time.
Like any internet service, Cympha's servers receive your device's IP address and standard request details when the app talks to them, and keep ordinary server logs for security and troubleshooting.
Where data is stored
Uploaded files are stored with Cympha's cloud storage and hosting providers under standard data-processing agreements. Signing in from the browser, when you choose to finish a case or open Studio, is handled by the Cympha web application and its identity provider, not by the app.
Permissions
The app requests network access to talk to Cympha's servers. It reads only the files you open or share into it, and writes only to its own Documents/Cympha folder. It requests no other Android permissions.
Children
The app is built for dental professionals and is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect information from children.
Your choices and rights
- Remove files from the app, or clear the app's data, to delete everything it holds locally.
- Delete files you saved to
Documents/Cymphalike any other file on your device. - Email privacy@guidemia.com to ask us to remove an uploaded share or hand-off, or to access, export, or delete data we hold. We respond within 30 days.
Changes
If this policy changes in a way that matters to you, we will update the date above and, where the change is significant, note it in the app's store listing.
